Special Counsel for Litigation and Corporate
Romeo Lim Magtanong (RLM), brings to the Firm more than 30 years of both corporate and litigation experience.
RLM started this career handling cases before the courts and administrative agencies. He handled cases involving serious crimes and civil cases involving substantial amounts and some novel civil law and commercial issues. He also has experience in labor relations and standards including collective bargaining and labor disputes with notices of strikes and lockouts.
He acted as Corporate Secretary and Legal Counsel of various companies, advising these companies on legal issues, drafting and reviewing major contracts, and attending to their corporate housekeeping requirements.
He eventually founded his own law firm and subsequently joined several law firms as partner. He taught commercial laws and trial technique in a Manila-based law school for several years.
In 2008, RLM joined a major Philippine law firm, as Special Counsel/Consultant where he handled corporate rehabilitation and/or insolvency cases and represented the Philippine subsidiaries of the then reputed second largest investment bank in the world. RLM was exposed to intricate commercial transactions such as syndicated loans, joint ventures, financing, debt restructuring, repayment and servicing, establishment/operation of special purpose corporate vehicles and other intricate business dealings.
In 2014, he joined a major real estate company as Vice President of its Legal Department. He handled the legal requirements of the conglomerate includíng power and water projects, construction, project development, mall operations, special projects, hospitality, property management and leasing, among others.
RLM obtained his Bachelor of Arts (cum laude) and Bachelor of Laws from the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. While in UP, he was a Literary Editor of the Philippine Collegian, the school’s official organ, and was a fellow in the national UP Creative Writing Workshop conducted by the UP Creative Writing Center in 1982. He was a member of the UP Writers’ Club.
